SRT Shoot April 2012 – why I love cars and models
Saturday was, by all accounts, the best car shoot of my life. True, it was also the first car shoot containing all of the elements of a commercial production – beautiful rides, a beautiful model, a nice location, a makeup artist, assistants (the car owners), and lots of lighting.
Three strobes were used – two Bowens Gemini 500R lights on a small TravelPak and a Canon 580EX II on a stand, used as a kicker. The Geminis were triggered via a Pulsar radio stacked atop a PocketWizard MiniTT1 for the 580. A softbox was fixed on the main light, with a reflective brolly attached the secondary.
Katie was a dream – so professional, laid back, and friendly. She was one of the guys, talking cars yet all the time being prepared for the next shot.

Hospital Demolition
The tear-down of the old All Children’s Hospital facility is fascinating, if a little bittersweet. Many babies were born within those walls that now were crumbling apart and being hauled away.

A Weekend at Clearwater Beach

I spent a great Saturday at Clearwater Beach and was very productive – this shot was taken from the eighth floor of a hotel pool deck overlooking the boardwalk and Pier 60. I used an ultra wide-angle Canon 10-22mm EF-S lens at f/11, then tonemapped a single RAW exposure at ±4 EV in Photomatix. This is my typical strategy when shooting handheld.
